LO55813: NOTES 851FP2 ON WINDOWS, REMOVES LOTUS NOTES ENTRY FROM THE MOST FREQUENTLY USED APPLLICATION (MFU).

APAR status

• Closed as returned (APAR cannot be resolved without additional info from IBM or customer.)

Error description

• After installation on Notes 851FP2 on Windows, Lotus Notes never
  comes in the windows start menu as a Most Frequently Used
  appllication.
  
  The issue is similar with Technote: 1425858 but for Windows XP
  and for MFU list and not for PIN list.
  
  Environement
  windows XP SP3
  Lotus Notes 8.5.1 FP2
  
  Steps to reproduce
  
  1. Before installing Notes 654, single user, English on a
  Windows XP, ensure no NoStartPage key in the
  HKLM\Software\Classes\Applications\notes.exe.
  
  Also clear the MFU list of any programs.
  - Right-click Start, and then click Properties. Or, if the Start
  menu is already displayed, right-click an empty area of the
  Start menu, and then click Properties.
  - Click Customize.
  - Click the General tab.
  - Under Programs, click the button marked Clear List, this will
  now clear the Start menu Most Frequently Used list, click OK,
  and then click OK.
  
  2. Install Notes 654 Single Client, English
  3. Start working with Notes. As you notice the Notes icon is
  added into the MFU list and it is also added into the PIN list.
  4. At  this moment no NoStartPage key is added to the registry
  
  5. Install Notes 851. Suddenly the Notes icon disappeared from
  the MFU list, but the Notes icon is still displayed in the PIN
  list.
  
  No NoStartPage key is added to the registry at this moment.
  
  6. RemoveNotes icon from the PIN list
  7. Suddenly Notes icon is displayed in the MFU list
  8. Install Notes 851FP2.
  
  - NoStartPage key is added to the registry at this moment.
  - the Notes icon is removed automatically from the MFU list
  after finishing the installation of Notes 851FP2
  - No matter how times you open Notes Client, the icon is not
  added to the MFU list
  - Restarting the machine several times, but still
  the same behaviour, Notes icon is not added to the MFU list.
  

Local fix

• Delete the NoStartPage key from
  HKLM\Software\Classes\Applications\notes.exe, and restart the
  machine.
