Error description

  • When trying to Open an ICS file from within notes, the following
    error occurs.

    Steps To Reproduce:
    1. Send a calendar invite from an outside account. ( I used
    google calendar)
    2. Using an 8.,5.1 Notes Client, right click on the ICS file
    that is inside
    the Invitation.
    3. Select : Open with, and choose notes.exe
    4. The following error occurs "Invalid directory name or device
    not ready"

**Even if you set the Internet Explorer options to have Lotus
    Notes as the
default client, you still cannot open the ICS file. If you save
    the ICS file to
the desktop and double click on it, Outlook opens.

Local fix

  • change the file association for .ics files to RPCLAUNCHER.exe
