Error description

  • Our customer reported an intermittent issue affecting just a few
    users with
Notes 7.0.2 on Citrix (though this had happened across several
    upgrades of
Citrix and Notes). The user would go to print and nothing would
    be selected as
the default printer. The user would manually select the printer
    and the setting
would "stick" sometimes for several days or weeks.

MS Word and other applications on Citrix did not show the same
    issue. After
several rounds of debug code we found the root cause:

The comparison of two registry keys to determine the default
    printer in Notes
7.x is case sensitive. In a Citrix environment this may not be
    the case

The default printer in this key

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Wi
    ndows\device

Does not match any of the printers exactly which our in our list
    in this
    key

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows
    NT\CurrentVersion\Devices

Therefore nothing was selected in the default printer drop down

    box.
WNCO06X != WNCO06x with lower case 'x' in the customer case.

Local fix

  • Manually correcting the registry values resolved the issue in
    this case, but
    the code should handle it.

Comments

  • This APAR is associated with SPR# JADS7P8QJG.
This is a lower priority issue that will not be fixed in an
8.0.x fixpack. If customers are experiencing it in an 8.5.x
release, it can be triaged to determine if it should be fixed
     in an 8.5.x maintenance release
