Error description

  • Problem Description:

    There are 3 different users "testuser1" "testuser2" "testuser3"
    in the Domino
    server's domino directory.
On the client machine, the notes client is configured for
    "testuser1" and the
default location document is set for testuser1".
The user id files for the 3 users are stored on the client
    machine with the
    following paths:
    1. testuser1: c:\lotus\notes\data\user.id
    2. testuser2: c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id
    3. testuser3: c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id

The mail database for "testuser3" can only be accessed by
    "testuser3" but
cannot be accessed by "testuser1" and "testuser2"

Do the following steps to finally switch user id to "testuser3",
    then you
cannot open mail database for "testuser3":

    1. Launch Notes Client and log in as "testuser1".
    2. Switch user id to "testuser2" by using the id file located at

    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id"
    3. Copy "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id" to overwrite
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id"
    4. Switch user id to "testuser3" by using
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id", which is overwritten
    by
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id" in step 3.
    5. Now try to open the mail database for "testuser3" on domino
    server, then you
will get a "You are not authorized to access that database"
    message and cannot
    open the database.

In step 4 if you Switch user id to "testuser3" by using
"c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id", then you can open the
    mail database in
    step 5.

This behavior seems to be a software problem, please find out
    the root cause
    and fix it.

    Environment:

    Domino Server: Domino 8.5
    OS: Windows 2003
    Notes: 8.5/WindowsXP (standard or basic)

    Steps to reproduce:

Steps to preparing the test environment:
    1. Set up a test environment with Domino 8.5/Windows 2003 and
    Notes
    8.5/WindowsXP
    2. Add 3 test users "testuser1" "testuser2" "testuser3" in the
    Domino server's
    domino directory.
    3. Configure the Notes client by "testuser1".
    4. Download user id files to the client machine with the
    following paths:
     testuser1: c:\lotus\notes\data\user.id
     testuser2: c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id
     testuser3: c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id
    5. Make sure "tsetuser1" and "testuser2" are not listed in the
    ACL of the mail
database for "testuser3". (It means "testuser1" and "testuser2"
    cannot access
    the mail database for "testuser3")

After set up the test environment , reproduce this issue by the
    following steps:
    1. Launch Notes Client and log in as "testuser1".
    2. Switch user id to "testuser2" by using the id file located at

    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id"
    3. Copy "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id" to overwrite
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id"
    4. Switch user id to "testuser3" by using
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id", which is overwritten
    by
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id" in step 3.
    5. Now try to open the mail database for "testuser3" on domino
    server, then you
will get a "You are not authorized to access that database"
    message and cannot
    open the database.

Now quit the Notes client and try the following steps to avoid
    this issue:
    1. Launch Notes Client and log in as "testuser1".
    2. Switch user id to "testuser2" by using the id file located at

    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser2\user.id"
    3. Switch user id to "testuser3" by using
    "c:\lotus\notes\data\testuser3\user.id".
    5. Now try to open the mail database for "testuser3" on domino
    server, then you
can ope the database with no problem.
