LO48330: ENHANCEMENT : TRANSLOG_MAXSIZE IS NOT CONFIGURED WHEN USING ARCH IVED TRANSACTION LOGGING

APAR status

• Closed as requirement.

Error description

• The customer is configuring a new server with Archived
  transaction logging.
  
  The server is new and has not had transaction logging running on
  it before.
  
  The option 'Maximum log space' is not available when setting up
  archived
  transaction logging. This setting is used for the
  TRANSLOG_Maxsize parameter in
  the NOTES.INI
  
  The customer is looking to have this setting available as it is
  used by TSM
  (Tivoli Storage Manager) :
  
  "ACD5709E The Domino environment variable (TRANSLOG_MaxSize) is
  missing or
  invalid.
  
  Threshold criteria will be based upon all available disk space
  on the log
  volume."
  
  The customer found in TSM/TDP documentation that this parameter
  
  (TRANSLOG_MaxSize) should be set in notes.ini file.
  
  
  If the variable TRANSLOG_Maxsize is set, the behaviour of
  backing up transaction
  logs is done based on the occupancy of the .TXN files but if the
  parameter is
  not set the backup is based on the occupancy of the file
  system.
  

Local fix

• In order to add this parameter to the NOTES.INI follow the
  following
  steps.
  
  
  Open the Server Document in the Administration Client.
  
  Open the 'Transaction Logging' tab.
  
  Set the Document to Edit mode.
  
  With Transaction Logging enabled switch the 'Logging Style' to
  Circular, you
  will see sever parameter appear including 'Maximum log space'.
  
  Fill in the 'Maximum log space' setting to your required
  value.
  
  Save and Close the server document.
  
  Return to the 'Transaction Logging' tab.
  
  Set the Document to Edit mode again.
  
  Reset the 'Logging Style' to 'Archived', you will see the extra
  parameter
  disappear from the options.
  
  Restart the server, and the NOTES.INI parameter
  "TRANSLOG_MaxSize= " will have
  been added to the NOTES.INI.
