Error description

  • If relay server rejects messages transferred by their policy,
    NDR is not
created when messages are transferred by Mail Rule "send copy
    to". Nothing has
been reported to original sender if the message fails to
    transfer.

    ENVIRONMENT:
    ServerA: Domino8.5.1/Windows2003
    ServerB: Domino8.5.1/Windows2003

    ROUTING PASS:
User ---> ServerA --(SMTP relay)-> ServerB

    STEPS:
    1. Prepare for two Domino servers (different domain) named
    'ServerA' and
    'ServerB'.
    2. In ServerA' server configuration doc, go to [Router/SMTP] -
    [Basics] and set
ServerB as relay host in "Relay host for messages leaving the
    local internet
    domain:" field.
    3. In ServerB' server configuration doc, go to [Router/SMTP] -
    [Restrictions
and Controles...] - [Restrictions] and set 500KB in "Maximum
    message size:"
    field.
    4. Create a user in ServerA and open mail database. Then, create
    a mail rule as
follows in order to send a copy to specified internet address.
    When: All Documents
Perform the following actions: send Full Copy to abc@abc.com
    5. Send a message from external user to the user in ServerA with
    attachment
    over 500KB.
-> Then you'll see these messages in server console. This is
    working as
expected because of ServerB's configuration, but no NDR is
    generated. Nothing
has been reported to original sender if the message fails to
    transfer.

2010/01/07 20:06:13 Router: No messages transferred to
    SERVERB.IBM.COM
    (host SERVERB.IBM.COM) via SMTP
2010/01/07 20:06:13 Router: Error transferring message
    003CFE74 via SMTP to
SERVERB.IBM.COM 552 Message size exceeds fixed maximum message
    size

    Add Info1
If the user in ServerA directly send a message to abc@abc.com
    with attachment
over 500KB, he/she will receive NDR as intended.

    Add Info2
Changing the value of RouterUserRuleForwardReversePath (from 0
    to 3) has never
    alter results.

    Add Info3
Every time relay server rejects receiving incoming messages by
    their policy,
this issue occurs. In another case, for example, you can also
    reproduce it if
you set "*" in [Router/SMTP] - [Restrictions and Controles...] -
    [SMTP Inbound
Controls] - "Deny messages to be sent to the following internet
    hosts to be
sent to external internet domains:" field in ServerB's server
    configuration doc
    in order to deny relay.
