Error description

  • If you install a hotfix as one OS user and then later install a
new hotfix over the existing one, as a different user, the
Help->about page in Notes will reflect both old and new build
    information.

The problem will only occur if the Notes client is used between
the two upgrades (which is, of course, likely), and it occurs
because the different OS account is unable to completely
    uninstall the previous hotfix.

This scenario is likely to occur in situations involving
Microsoft's SMS to push out a hotfix over a hotfix that had not
been likewise pushed out with SMS. The reason is that SMS uses
a System Account for the OS user it installs as, which is not
the same as the system Administrator account. Here are a couple
of scenarios in which we will get this failure (on a base
    install of 8.0.2):

    Scenario 1:
    1. Install 802FP1CCH1 as OS Administrator
    2. Run Notes, then close it
    3. Install 802FP1CCH2 via SMS (OS System Account)
    4. Note the problem about page in Notes

    Scenario 2:
    1. Install 802FP1CCH1 via SMS (OS System Account)
    2. Run Notes, then close it
    3. Install 802FP1CCH2 as OS Administrator
    4. Note the problem about page in Notes

    Scenario 3:
    1. Install 802FP1CCH1 via SMS (OS System Account)
    2. Run Notes, then close it
    3. Run 802FP1CCH1 again to manually uninstall it, as OS
    Administrator
    4. Install 802FP1CCH2 as OS Administrator
    5. Note the problem about page in Notes

Local fix

  • 1. Manually remove the old hotfix, then run the Notes client at
least once before pushing out the new hotfix
    2. Use SURunAs utility to package an installer that will run as
the same OS account that installed the first hotfix regardless
of what OS account launched the SURunAs packaged installer.
