LO38981: UPDALL -T DOES NOT INDEX WEB ONLY VIEWS

Error description

• Although updall is "working as designed" and wont index views
  that are flagged
  as being hidden from Notes Clients in the design properties,
  this does cause
  performance issues for WEB based applications.
  
  If the View can not be indexed offline then it will be indexed
  by HTTP at the
  time the user tries to open it.   For large db's with 1000's of
  documents this
  can take a very long time and renders the view useless until the
  index is
  first built.
  
  This SPR therefore requests as an enhancement that Updall -T be
  allowed to
  build a views index in preparation for its use by web clients.
  
  Steps to re-produce :
  
  1.  Create a DB on a domino server and populate it with 1000's
  of documents and
  make a copy of it for safe keeping
  2.  Create a view in the db ensuring its design properties are
  set to HIDE from
  notes clients (ie is a web only view)
  3.  Access a view in the original db (which doesn't have its
  index created)
  using http://server/db/viewname  in my testing this took about
  30 mins to open
  the view which included the time taken to create the index for
  the view.
  4.  Note the time take to create the views index
  5.  restore the copy of the db (the one with no indexes that you
  backed up in
  step 1)
  6.  from the server console type :   load updall dbname -T
  "myview"
  7.  You will receive an error saying view not found
  8.  Change the design properties of this view and UNHIDE from
  notes clients
  9.  Run the command again :  load updall dbname -T "myview"
  10. The view index will now be created and in my testing took
  about 6 minutes
  to create the view index.
  11. Access the view using http://server/db/viewname and now the
  view opens much
  quicker (opened in less than 1 mins in my testing)
  

Local fix

• Uncheck the Hide from Clients property in the view Design to
  allow the view to
  be indexed.
