APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
For certain compilation units the compiler may insert multiple instances of the same debug symbol. Since the size of object files can affect link and load times, not duplicating these symbols can have significant impact for some users.
Local fix
N/A
Problem summary
The compiler is issuing multiple debug strings for "function returning a specific type". These symbols result in larger objects which can impact certain performance metrics.
Problem conclusion
The compiler now makes an effort to reuse the matching debug strings to reduce the number of duplicates.
