APAR status
Closed as program error.
Error description
In most cases tuning the application heap usage properly will eliminate the SQL0973W message being returned to applictions. However, due to this APAR, it is possible that the SQL0973W will be returned to an application against the APPGROUP_MEM_SZ heap. This can occur when applicaitons are calling procedures where a cursor is held open longer than expected. The cursor is usually defined using the WITH HOLD and WITH RETURN TO CALLER, but is not closed immediately after the result set is fetched. Due to the cursor not being closed after the result set is fetched memory on the non-coordinator partitions for the application shared group could increase over time. This can result with the a non-coordinator partition returning SQL0973W.
Local fix
This issue can occur when calling procedures using cursors defined using the following options: 1. WITH HOLD 2. WITH RETURN TO CLIENT but not closing the cursor after the result set is fetch. So closing the cursor after the result set is fetched will limit the amount of memory that is retained on the non-coordinator partitions.
Problem summary
Users affected: In DPF environment, where Application is calling procedures using cursors defined using the following options (1) WITH HOLD and (2) WITH RETURN TO CLIENT but not closing the cursor after the result set is fetch. Problem Description: See "Error Description" for more details. Problem Summary: See "Error Description".
Problem conclusion
First fixed in DB2 UDB Version 9.1, FixPak 6.
