APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• The Java specification defines
  ResultSetMetaData#getColumnDisplaySize method returns the number
  of characters for given column. However getColumnDisplaySize for
  GRAPHIC type returns number of bytes instead of number of
  characters on Legacy JDBC driver.
  

Local fix

• Please use Universal JDBC Driver (Jcc). The
  getColumnDisplaySize(graphic type) returns number of characters
  on Jcc.

  If this APAR is not applied,
  ResultSetMetaData#getColumnDisplaySize method for GRAPHIC
  columns returns number of bytes instead of number of characters.

  contain only double-byte string.
  

Problem conclusion

• First fixed in DB2 UDB Version 8.1, FixPak 16. (s080111)
  

Temporary fix

• Please use Universal JDBC Driver (jcc).
