Error description

  • After the IBM Business Process Server (BPM) server has been
running for some time, operations might start to fail.
The SystemOut.log file shows OutOfMemoryError stack traces.
Analyzing the heap dumps created by the Java Virtual Machine
(JVM), you see numerous objects of class
    com.lombardisoftware.instrumentation.core.InstrumentationRecord.

About 17gb of a 20gb heap are used by Instrumentation
    records,
    17,579,088,760 (85.58%) [32] 9 class

Local fix

Problem summary

  • The server captures instrumentation records during runtime to
provide statistics, such as about the cache utilization, in the
    Process Admin Console.
The threads that perform process and task operations create
these records, which are processed to prepare the statistics.
In certain load scenarios, more records might be created than
can be processed, leading to out-of-memory errors.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix will be included in the IBM Business Process Manager (BPM)
    V8.5.7 2016.09 cumulative fix.

To determine whether the cumulative fix is available and
download it if it is, complete the following steps on Fix
    Central:

    1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from
the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack
level, and your platform, and then click Continue.
    2. Select Text, enter ?cumulative fix?, and click Continue.
