Error description
The staff query refresh function of IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) regularly refreshes staff queries against a directory service (such as LDAP or VMM). After a successful refresh, the function reschedules its next run, inserting a database record into the SAVED_TASK_MESSAGE_T table. Inserting the database record fails with a ProcessError ?Error during Serialization? exception: The following exception is caught from before the synchronization operation completes: com.ibm.bpe.api.ProcessError: Error during Serialization java.io.NotSerializableException: com.ibm.task.staff.StaffQueryRefreshManager$2 at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeObject0 (ObjectOutputStream.java:1185) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.defaultWriteFields (ObjectOutputStream.java:1555) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeSerialData (ObjectOutputStream.java:1516) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeOrdinaryObject (ObjectOutputStream.java:1433) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeObject0 (ObjectOutputStream.java:1179) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.defaultWriteFields (ObjectOutputStream.java:1555) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeSerialData (ObjectOutputStream.java:1516) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeOrdinaryObject (ObjectOutputStream.java:1433) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeObject0 (ObjectOutputStream.java:1179) at java.io.ObjectOutputStream.writeObject (ObjectOutputStream.java:346) at com.ibm.bpe.util.SerializerDeserializer.serializeInternal (SerializerDeserializer.java:472) at com.ibm.bpe.util.ExtendedSerializerDeserializer. serializeInternal(ExtendedSerializerDeserializer.java:88) at com.ibm.bpe.util.SerializerDeserializer.serialize (SerializerDeserializer.java:287) at com.ibm.bpe.util.SerializerDeserializer.serialize (SerializerDeserializer.java:256) at com.ibm.bpe.database.TomObjectBase.serializedObject (TomObjectBase.java:765) at com.ibm.bpe.database.TomObjectBase.serializedObject (TomObjectBase.java:740) at com.ibm.bpe.database.DbAccSavedTaskMessage. memberToStatement(DbAccSavedTaskMessage.java:118) at com.ibm.bpe.database.DbAccSavedTaskMessage. setParametersForInsertStmt(DbAccSavedTaskMessage.java:306) at com.ibm.bpe.database.SavedTaskMessage. setParametersForInsertStmt(SavedTaskMessage.java:646) at com.ibm.bpe.database.TomInstanceCache.flushDirtyObjects (TomInstanceCache.java:137) at com.ibm.bpe.database.TomExtended.beforeCompletion (TomExtended.java:1117)
Local fix
Problem summary
An inner Java class of the StaffQueryRefreshManager contributes to a message that must be serialized for persistence. However, this inner class was not implemented to support serialization.
Problem conclusion
A fix is available for IBM BPM V8.5.5.0 that makes the error-causing Java class serializable. On Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral), search for JR54949: 1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack level, and your platform, and then click Continue. 2. Select APAR or SPR, enter JR54949, and click Continue. When you download fix packages, ensure that you also download the readme file for each fix. Review each readme file for additional installation instructions and information about the fix.
