Error description

  • You receive sporadic NullPointerExceptions when a process
    instance is accessing managed assets, perhaps caused by a
    java.lang.NullPointerException
     at com.lombardisoftware.client.persistence.
      ManagedAsset$AssetData.getLength(ManagedAsset.java:94)
     at com.lombardisoftware.core.script.js.PreparedScope.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Managed assets are held in a cache so that the managed asset's
    contents do not need to be read from the database each time the
    asset is accessed.
    
    The access pattern to this cache lacks of some synchronization.
    As a result, a null value instead of the managed asset's data is
    returned.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM V8.5.5.0 that repairs the access
    pattern.
    
    On Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral), search
    for JR52955:
    
    1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from
      the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack
      level, and your platform, and then click Continue.
    
    2. Select APAR or SPR, enter JR52955, and click Continue.
    
    When you download fix packages, ensure that you also download
    the readme file for each fix. Review each readme file for
    additional installation instructions and information about the
    fix.
