JR52410: MONITORING IBM BPM SERVICES WITH JMX (MBEAN) WHEN DURATION IS USED AS A FILTER CRITERIA DOES NOT WORK

Error description

  • You can retrieve performance data for processes and services  by
    using JMX to retrieve data from Process Monitor, which is a
    subcomponent of the IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) server.
    You can filter your search either by using
    retrieveMonitorByFilter() or retrieveMonitorByFilterAsJSON()
    with filter criteria. However, when you use the duration as a
    filter criteria, active services are not returned, even if they
    meet the criteria.
    

Local fix

  • Use the retrieveMonitorAll() or retrieveMonitorAllAsJSON()
    methods to get all data and then filter on your own or specify 0
    as duration and filter only on the step count.
    

Problem summary

  • This problem occurs because the total time is used to filter on
    the duration, which is not set unless the service has finished.
    The total time for active services is always 0.
    

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is available for IBM BPM V7.5.1.2 that changes the
    calculation of the total duration for active services.
    
    On Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral), search
    for JR52410:
    
    1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from
      the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack
      level, and your platform, and then click Continue.
    
    2. Select APAR or SPR, enter JR52410, and click Continue.
    
    When you download fix packages, ensure that you also download
    the readme file for each fix. Review each readme file for
    additional installation instructions and information about the
    fix.
