Error description

  • By default, an IBM Business Process Manager (BPM) system has
    only one defined system user, which is the user who is defined
    when IBM BPM is installed. This user runs the BPMN system tasks.

    In rare scenarios, you might want to define more than one system
    user. You can do this by configuring the <system-lane-users>
    property. However, there is no effective way to specify which of
    these users should run a given system task. The system always
    chooses the first configured user.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • Although you can change the participant of the system lane and
    designate individual users, the first configured system lane
    user is exclusively used to run all system tasks.

Problem conclusion

  • A fix is/will be available for IBM BPM V7.5.1.2 that allows you
    to change the selection of the user who runs system tasks:
    If the configured participant of the system lane that contains a
    system task is not the system user, all users included in the
    participant are evaluated and matched against all configured
    system lane users. The first matching user runs the system task
    (and all other system tasks in the same lane). If there is no
    match, you see the following warning
    Could not resolve a valid user for system task. Defaulting to
    user '<user-id>'
    and the system reverts to using the first configured system
    user.

    Use the following type of XML override to add additional system
    lane users
    <properties>
     <server merge="mergeChildren">
      <bpd-engine merge="mergeChildren">
       <system-lane-users merge="replace">
         <user login-auth-alias="psNode01/2ndSystemUser_Auth_Alias"
    />
        <user login-auth-alias="BPMAdmin_Auth_Alias" />
       </system-lane-users>
      </bpd-engine>
     </server>
    </properties>
