Error description
You are running multiple process instances of the same model and you sporadically observe a ConcurrentModificationException when the BPEL engine evaluates an XPath expression. The detailed exception looks like the following: {2015-08-20 14:34:12,734} {} {NA} {NA} {} {} {} {} {} {} {INFO} {Default : 13} ComponentName [Component_ErrorDetails ] Message [Start Log of CoreMessageHandler Catch All >> com.ibm.bpe.api.StandardFaultException: CWWBE0069E: The 'bpws:getVariableData('MSG_Trigger',"TriggerKey/AdditionalKeyVal uePairs[Key='svcscompcode']")' object could not be selected. java.util.ConcurrentModificationException at java.util.HashMap$AbstractMapIterator.checkConcurrentMod (HashMap.java:193) at java.util.HashMap$AbstractMapIterator.makeNext (HashMap.java:198) at java.util.HashMap$KeyIterator.next(HashMap.java:271) at com.ibm.xml.xci.exec.BasicStaticContext.functionAvailable (BasicStaticContext.java:98) at com.ibm.bpe.xpathservice.impl.xci.XPathServiceImpl. registerFunction(XPathServiceImpl.java:455) at com.ibm.bpe.xpath.XPathEvaluator$ExternalExtensionFunction. registerAtXPathService(XPathEvaluator.java:970) at com.ibm.bpe.xpath.XPathEvaluator.registerExtensionFunctions (XPathEvaluator.java:521) at com.ibm.bpe.xpatheval.BasicXPathEvaluator.createXPathService (BasicXPathEvaluator.java:229) at com.ibm.bpe.xpath.XPathEvaluator.evaluateBooleanExpression (XPathEvaluator.java:191) at com.ibm.bpe.engine.BpelConditionHandler. evaluateTransitionCondition(BpelConditionHandler.java:505) at com.ibm.bpe.engine.BpelActivityStateFinished. continueNavigation( BpelActivityStateFinished.java:207) [...]
Local fix
Problem summary
XPath expressions in BPEL processes are evaluated as compiled expressions. The BPEL engine caches some XPath objects for each XPath expression. One of the XPath objects is not threadsafe and should not be shared across multiple execution threads. This issue can only occur if at least two process instances (of the same model) simultaneously execute the same step and evaluate the same XPath expression.
Problem conclusion
A fix is/will be available for IBM BPM v8.5.0.1 that corrects the XPath object cache. On Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral), search for JR51071: 1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack level, and your platform, and then click Continue. 2. Select APAR or SPR, enter JR51071, and click Continue. When you download fix packages, ensure that you also download the readme file for each fix. Review each readme file for additional installation instructions and information about the fix.
