Error description

  • The "v1/process/<process-instance-id>?action=js" REST API might
result in an Internal Server Error 500 if trace logging is
enabled for the REST API. This REST API attempts to log the
result of the expression evaluation if trace logging is enabled,
and if the expression evaluates to the value "null", then a
NullPointerException might occur on the server, which then
results in the Internal Server Error 500 being returned to the
    REST API caller.
The following NPE is logged in the SystemOut.log file:

    [7/14/14 11:12:32:314 CDT] 0000021d RestHelper 3 Encountered

Local fix

  • You can avoid the error by disabling REST API trace logging.

Problem summary

  • The "evaluate javascript" REST API might result in Internal
Server Error 500 if trace logging is enabled.

Problem conclusion

  • The fix is available for IBM BPM 8.5.0.1 & 8.5.5.0 that fix the
code defect by avoiding the attempt to log trace information
about a "null" result from the javascript expression evaluation.
