Error description
If you modeled an Advanced Integration service (AIS) that is located in a toolkit and that takes an ANY as input data, the AIS is called from a service or business process that is defined in a different toolkit or the process application. In this service or business process, you defined that the input data is assigned to a business object and the business object definition is defined on the same level (process application or toolkit) as the service or process. When you now start the service or process, a NullPointerException occurs.

Problem summary
You get a NullPointerException when you invoke an AIS that is located in a different toolkit than the caller of the AIS and the AIS has an ANY object as input data. PROBLEM DETAILED DESCRIPTION: You see the following NullPointerException message because the input data for the service is serialized in the context of the toolkit where the AIS is located. The concrete input data that is defined in a different application is not visible in this context: java.lang.NullPointerException at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeObject(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:393) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeObject(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:332) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeComplexType(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:998) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeObject(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:410) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeObject(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:332) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeComplexType(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:998) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeObject(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:410) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeObject(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:332) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serialize(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:318) at com.lombardisoftware.core.xml.AbstractXMLSerializer. serializeElement(AbstractXMLSerializer.java:268)
Problem conclusion
A fix for IBM BPM V8.5.0.1 is available that ensures that the input data of the advanced integration service is serialized in the correct context, so that the business object definition is visible. On Fix Central (http://www.ibm.com/support/fixcentral), search for JR49829: 1. Select IBM Business Process Manager with your edition from the product selector, the installed version to the fix pack level, and your platform, and then click Continue. 2. Select APAR or SPR, enter JR49829, and click Continue. When you download fix packages, ensure that you also download the readme file for each fix. Review each readme file for additional installation instructions and information about the fix.
