JR49759: Memory leak on Search server due to Searchers not closing

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• On the Search server, it can be observed the Java memory heap is
  always growing over time.  On examining the heap contents, it
  can be seen that each Core has more Searchers than necessary.
  Old Searchers are not getting cleaned up, causing them to remain
   in memory, increasing the used memory.
   One potential cause of this is improper error handling; when an
  error is thrown, a reference to the searcher is not properly
  closed. This results in the searcher not being removed from
  memory after it becomes obsolete.
  

Local fix

• Regular restarts on the Search server will reset the memory
  usage, clearing any Searchers which failed to close.
