JR48051: USING IE 8, IT IS NOT POSSIBLE TO OPEN .DOCX, .XLSX OR SIMILAR FILES IN THE NORMAL WAY

Error description

• In IBM InfoSphere Master Data Management Collaboration Server
  Version 10.1.0, when trying to open a .docx, .xlsx or similar
  file from binary attribute using Internet Explorer 8 (IE8), it
  is not possible to open the document as expected but some zip
  file without the document inside is displayed. However, with
  the old .doc files, it works fine. Opening the docx, .xlsx or
  similar file from binary attribute also works fine in IE9.
  
  
  Steps to reproduce:
  
  1. create a catalog with an item where one of the attributes is
  of type "binary"
  2. load the attribute with a file .docx, .xlsx and save the item
  3. open the item and the stored .docx, .xlsx  file
  
  Result:
  
  A zip file without the document inside is seen

Problem conclusion

• Internet Explorere v8 is not able to determine the correct
  application to associate with .docx and .xlsx files with the
  http response mimetype set to the generic
  "application/x-msdownload" and disposition set to "inline".
  Product code has been changed/fixed to set the http response
  disposition from "inline" to "attachment".
