Error description

  • Business users can deactivate promotions while promotion codes
are being generated. If the previously generated codes are not
removed before the promotion is activated again, there may be
more codes than expected when the code generation completes.

  • USERS AFFECTED:
 WebSphere Commerce V7 users creating promotions with a large
number of generated promotion codes.

 PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
 Promotions can be deactivated while promotion codes are being
generated, creating more codes than requested.

 BUSINESS IMPACT:
 More promotion codes than expected are generated, resulting in
less control by the business.  When the intent is to restrict a
promotion's availability due to concerns such as inventory
levels, this could have an impact.

 RECOMMENDATION:

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • Added logic to the DeactivatePromotion command to prevent the
business user from deactivating a promotion which is in the
activating state.  Once the activation has completed and the
codes have been generated, the business user will be able to
deactivate the promotion.
