JR47235: Database connection time-outs occur in the StagingProp utility's consolidation phase for large STAGLOG tables.

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Database time-outs can occur against the production database
  while StagingProp is running the consolidation phase. This issue
  is most visible during a large propagation that requires a
  lengthy consolidation.  The connections to both the staging and
  production databases are opened and left open for the duration
  of the utility's execution.

Problem summary

• USERS AFFECTED:
  WebSphere Commerce v7.0 users with a large number of entries in
  the STAGLOG table that require significant consolidation
  processing.
  
  PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
  Database connection time-outs occur in the StagingProp utility's
  consolidation phase for large STAGLOG tables.
  
  BUSINESS IMPACT:
  While Staging a large number of records, the StagingProp utility
  could fail with database time-outs during the consolidation
  phase, forcing the consolidation process to be repeated.
  
  RECOMMENDATION:
  

Problem conclusion

• To avoid these database time-outs, the StagingProp utility was
  updated to make the connections initially to verify
  connectivity, but then release the production database
  connection for the duration of the consolidation phase.  The
  connection to the production database will be re-acquired when
  needed in order to complete the propagation phase.
