Error description

  • DynaCache invalidation processing can take several milliseconds
to complete in each application server node JVM where stale
cached information may need to be removed. It is possible that
two URL requests sent to two different servers, where the first
request makes a change to the database and issues dynacache
invalidations, which are sent to the second server, and the
second request is sent to the second server immediately after
the first request finishes and relies on the cache invalidation
having completed in the second server, that the invalidation
operation may not have completed at the second server before the
second request is processed. In such a case, the second
request may use stale data from the cache, and return incorrect
    results in its response.

Local fix

  • Use session affinity to cause multiple requests from the same
user session to go to the same application server.

Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED:
WebSphere Commerce users who do not use session affinity to
cause multiple requests from the same user session to go to the
    same application server.

    PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
Configure data cache to delay after sending invalidations to
    specified object caches.

    BUSINESS IMPACT:
Stale data to be used during the processing of a request

    RECOMMENDATION:

Problem conclusion

  • A new data cache configuration causes the application server
request processing to wait for a specified number of
milliseconds after issuing cache invalidations to any of
specified object caches. For example, to configure a delay of
100 milliseconds after sending invalidations to the
WCSessionDistributedMapCache object cache, add the following
line to the CrossTransactionCache tag. (The
CrossTransactionCache tag is found within the InstanceProperties
tag in the wc-server.xml instance configuration file.)

    <WCSessionDistributedMapCache
    delayAfterInvalidationMilliseconds="100" />
