Error description

• Currently, a SKU can not be directly moved from one parent
  product to another parent product if the SKU has any defining
  attributes from the Attribute Dictionary. The user needs to
  remove the defining attributes first, do the move and then add
  the defining attributes again. These additional steps make the
  operation of re-parenting a SKU cumbersome and error-pron

Problem summary

• USERS AFFECTED:
  V7 WebSphere Commerce Catalog business users attempting to
  reorganize SKU-Product relationships.
  
  PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
  Cannot directly move a SKU from one parent product to another if
  the SKU has any defining attributes from the Attribute
  Dictionary.
  
  BUSINESS IMPACT:
  To re-parent a SKU from one product to another requires removing
  all the defining attributes first, then adding them back after
  the move.
  
  RECOMMENDATION:
  

Problem conclusion

• The ability under the CMC to re-parent a SKU from one product to
  another without having to remove all the attribute dictionary
  defining attributes first is being added.  The new parent
  product has all the attribute dictionary defining attributes of
  the existing parent product.
  
  Steps to re-parent a SKU in CMC
  1. Display the SKU list of the original parent product, then
  right click the desired SKU and select "Copy"
  2. Display the SKU list of the new parent product, then right
  click and select "Paste"
  3. In the popup window, select "Move".
  4. Save.
  
  Note that in order for the re-parenting to be successful, the
  defining attributes of the old parent product must be compatible
  with the new parent product.
  This means:
  1. Defining attributes for both old and new parent products are
  Attribute Dictionary attributes.
  2. The new parent product has all of the defining attributes of
  the old parent product.
  3. There is no existing SKU under the new parent product with
  the same defining attributes and values.
