APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• A customer may have a customization that allows an item to have
  multiple parent products.  The parent products can be in
  different categories. Also as part of the customization, the
  item has not been added to the CATGPENREL database table to
  match the item to its parent category.
  In this scenario, if a promotion is created on one of the parent
  categories, then the promotion may or may not be applied to the
  item. This depends on the order the records are returned from
  the database when retrieving the parent products for the item.
  

Local fix

• If possible, remove the parent product relationships of an item
  not needed for promotion evaluation from the CATENTREL table.
  

Problem summary

• USERS AFFECTED:
  All WebSphere Commerce users who have items with multiple parent
  products and using promotions.
  
  PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
  Add support in the promotion engine for customizations where an
  item has multiple parent products and the item is not in the
  catalog group to catalog entry relationship table.
  
  BUSINESS IMPACT:
  Promotions may not be applied correctly to items with multiple
  parent products.
  
  RECOMMENDATION:
  

Problem conclusion

• The promotion engine was enhanced to handle the scenario where
  an item has multiple parent products. The parent categories will
  be found for each of the parent products of the item. This
  allows any category level promotions to be properly applied to
  the item.
