Error description

  • Propagation of staged data from a Staging (or Authoring)
environment database to a Production environment database may
suffer from poor performance if the source table of data being
propagated contains BLOB or CLOB column(s).

Presence of LOB-type columns in a table causes the StagingProp
utility to not use the JDBC batch method of data propagation
when Oracle database instances are being used. This can be
verified by searching the diagnostics generated by the
    StagingProp utility for the line:
"JDBC batch won't be used by INSERT and UPDATE SQLs because of
    BLOB/CLOB field(s)"
An example of such a table is the CATENTDESC table.

This limitation has been removed for WebSphere Commerce Version
7.0 environments with Oracle 11g databases.

Local fix

Problem summary

  • USERS AFFECTED:
WebSphere Commerce Version 7.0 StagingProp Users with Oracle 11g
    or Higher Databases

    PROBLEM ABSTRACT:
Enablement of JDBC batch for LOB-type columns, i.e., BLOB, CLOB,
    on Oracle databases

    BUSINESS IMPACT:
StagingProp performance (without iFix) is slower for tables with
    BLOB or CLOB columns

    RECOMMENDATION:

Problem conclusion

  • StagingProp code was updated to allow tables with BLOB or CLOB
columns to run in JDBC batch mode to improve performance
