Error description
IS 8.0.1 FP2 isn't handling import of Japan characters properly.
Local fix
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Import of DSX files that contain DBCS characters on a client system that does not have a DBCS version of Windows installed may lead to warnings about invalid hex charcters, or characters not being supported by the current code page. **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: When a DSX file is exported, DBCS characters will be represented as \(ABCD) where ABCD is the hex Unicode value of the character. All such characters can be created during an export. However, on import, the standard DSX importer code checks to see that the DBCS character can be round-tripped through the client's Windows code page, as if it does not it will be corrupted when sent to the server (e.g. at job compile time). However, this round-trip test only works on a Windows system that has been installed as DBCS - for example, a true Japanese Windows installation. It fails if this is an English Windows installation, even if the Regional and Language Settings / Advanced has been set to Japanese - which sets the local code page to 932. However, in this latter case, if the code page has indeed been set to 932, the round-trip test could be skipped under certain circumstances; namely, when the DSX file only contains Japanese characters that genuinely are present in 932. If that is the case, the DSX importer could be allowed to import the objects, knowing that when the metadata is sent to the server it will actually pass through the given code page correctly. **************************************************************** RECOMMENDATION: Apply patch JR36044 ****************************************************************
