Problem summary

    USERS AFFECTED:
Preserve Type sub-property not available in 7.5.1a.
    ****************************************************************
    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Currently all group operator aggregation requires the
incoming data to be either a dfloat or a decimal. If
the incoming field doesn't match either of these, then
the field is forced to be one or the other. The customer
would like to be able to reduce on other field types,
specifically string, date, and timestamp. Since not all
of the forms of aggregation apply to these data types,
the customer only needs a subset of the operations
(just min and max support). These comparisons should be
done in the actual type specified.

    RECOMMENDATION:
patch for APAR JR34374 needs to be applied.

Problem conclusion

  • Group operator was not originally designed to be able to
handle anything other than number data types. Special
Functionality needed to be added in order to accommodate
    the desired functionality.

    Fix Summary :
A -preserveType flag has been added to the -reduce and
-rereduce arguments to the group operator. When this is
specified, the type of the value specified for the reducer
input is used. -preserveType is mutually exclusive with
every form of reduction except for the -min and -max
arguments. Although the UI will have the added ability of
being able to specify this flag, additional work will need
to be done when the customer specifies this flag, since
the UI still assumes the dfloat and decimal types are all
that exist as output possibilities. A modify after the operator
