Error description
Customer used a period in two field names and his XML Output Stage would not compile. Engineers looked into it and say that the PX Framework will not handle periods in column names. The 8.0.1 Designer Client Guide, pg. 34 claims that column names can be any length, must start with an alphabetic character, and may contain alphanumeric characters, $, period and underscore. The 8.1 Designer Client Guide says the same thing on pg. 76. The documents should be corrected.

Problem conclusion
This has been fixed in the Designer Guide for 8.5 - there are now separate naming rules for columns in px jobs, and permitted names do not include period characters.
