Error description
Connector Import Wizard is invoked from DataStage Designer to import Oracle table using Oracle Connector. The table contains DATE and TIMESTAMP columns. Before importing the table the user clicks on View data link to view the data in the table. After this the user imports the table and the DATE and TIMESTAMP columns are imported as VarChar DataStage columns. According to the documentation they should be imported as Date and Timestamp DataStage columns.
Local fix
Do not click on View data prior to importing the tables with DATE and TIMESTAMP columns. Alternatively, following the import, manually change the affected VarChar columns to Date and Timestamp columns.
Problem summary
**************************************************************** USERS AFFECTED: Users of Oracle Connector stage who are using View data functionality to view the current data in the database table from Connector Import Wizard in DataStage Designer **************************************************************** PROBLEM DESCRIPTION: If the user clicks on View button prior to importing table definition through Oracle Connector in Connector Import Wizard, then any DATE and TIMESTAMP columns in the table are imported asDataStage VarChar columns instead of DataStage Date and Timestamp columns. **************************************************************** RECOMMENDATION: Install Connector Rollup Patch 2 (CCRP2). NOTE: Starting with the post-CCRP2 patch JR34322, the connector will import Oracle DATE columns as Timestamp DataStage columns (with Scale and Extended attributes not set) and not as Date DataStage columns. This change is included in 8.1 Fix Pack 1. ****************************************************************
Problem conclusion
The code was fixed to ignore the metadata information collected during the view data operation. To implement view data operationfor Date and Timestamp columns, the connector reads the table values as text values with Oracle converting date and timestamp values to text values based on the current NLS settings. The problem was that the connector was adopting this temporary metadata for the table import operation when it should have described the table again specifically for the table import purpose.
