Error description

  • DataStage job will fail with a fatal error when trying to access
a Sybase table with a column name longer than 30 characters.
This is reproducible using the Sybase 15_0 open client, and
either a Sybase ASE 15 server or Sybase IQ 12.7 server, all of
which support column names longer than 30 characters.

The DataStage jobs fail both using the SybaseOC plug-in stage as
well as the Sybase Enterprise stage.

Local fix

  • This fix is included in 8.0.1 fixpack 3

Problem summary

  • Syabase OC stage not allowing column names longer than 30
characters even though the Sybase 15 Open Client and Sybase
database support this feature. The Sybase Enterprise stage has
    same problem.

Problem conclusion

  • Sybase OC and Sybase EE libraries are built with OCS-15_0
libraries to support long column names
