APAR status

  • Closed as fixed if next.

Error description

  • When installing the 8.1 client, the install does not upgrade the
MCM service. If you look at the running service, it is still the
version 7 service. This is the same as JR31896 for 8.0.1 but it
is not working at 8.1. This is the 8.1 refresh release.

Local fix

  • once installed, cd to
    IBM\InformationServer\MCM
    and run
    clientswitcherservice /uninstall
    then run
    clientswitcherservice /install

    That will correct the problem.

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
When installing the 8.1 client, the install does not upgrade
    the
MCM service. If you look at the running service, it is still
    the
    version 7 service.

    RECOMMENDATION:
Workaround: Do the 8.1 client install. When complete, bring up
    a
windows command window and do the following:
    A. cd IBM\InformationServer\MCM
    b. .\clientswitcherservice.exe /uninstall
    c. .\clientswitcherservice.exe /install
This will fix the service. Also be sure that the MCM icon on the
    desk
top points to the right MCM. If not, remove it and recreate it
    from the
menu (Start => Programs => IBM InformationServer)
