JR32003: IS 8.1 MULTI-CLIENT MANAGER IS NOT WORKING CORRECTLY WITH DS 7.5.3 WINDOWS XP

APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • DS 7.5.3 desktop icons are totally removed when IS  8.1 is
    selected.
    All DS 7.5.3 shortcuts on the program menu all get changed to
    admin.exe -(from manager.exe, director.exe, dsdesign.exe)
    

Local fix

  • Rename DS 7.5.3 shortcuts to unknown names so that it will be
    not be changed by the multi-client manager.
    

Problem summary

    least one of 7.x or 6.x

    PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
    DataStage 7.5.3 desktop icons are totally removed when 8.1 is
    selected.
    DataStage 7.5.3 shortcuts on the program menu all get changed
    toadmin.exe (from manager.exe, director.exe, dsdesign.exe)

    RECOMMENDATION:
    Install patch JR32003.
    This change is included in 8.1 Fix Pack 1.

Problem conclusion

  • Fixed shortcut handling of the Multi-Client Manager.  This fix
    applies to English language installations only.
    
    Note: some shortcuts may have already been corrupted, in which
    case see the instructions at the bottom of this note on how to
    repair them.
    
    Some start menu and desktop shortcuts may have been corrupted
    bythe the non-patched Multi-Client Manager
       and will need fixing manually. These shortcuts are:
    
     * Start Menu: Package installer (6.x, 7.x, DataStage Server
    install on Windows only). Right click the Start
       button and choose "Explore All Users".  Browse to
    "C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
        \Ascential DataStage".  Delete the existing Package
    installer shortcut and create a new one.  By default
       the package installer is located in
    c:\Ascential\DataStage\Package\Setup.exe
     * Start Menu: Obsolete versions of Multi-Client Manager (7.x).
    Right click the Start button and choose
      "Explore All Users". Browse to "C:\Documents and
    Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Ascential DataStage"
        and delete the old Multi-Client Manager shortcut
     * Start Menu: Unnamed shortcut pointing to the 7.x Manager
    client.  Right click the Start button and choose
       "Explore All Users". Browse to "C:\Documents and
     Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Ascential DataStage"
         and delete the unnamed shortcut
      * Desktop: Unnamed shortcut pointing to the 7.x Manager
    client.  Right click the shortcut and delete it.
