Error description

  • Based on the analysis of their "order" interface job and the
discussion with Data Direct, the patch has a good potential of
avoiding the cancel request and workaround the hang issue.

The change of the behavior is controlled by the environment
    variable "APT_ODBC_BYPASS_SELECTALL". When this environment
variable is set to 1, our "tableExists" function will not
execute 'select * from <tablename>'. The function will execute
the SQL statement "select '1' as test from <tablename> where
'1'='2'". This approach is more efficient than the default
"select * from table". The execution of new SQL select returns
zero row. When there is no row in the result set, based on the
DataDirect info, the deriver will not send a cancel request.

If this environment variable is not set, it will keep the same
behavior to run the "select * from table" statement. That allows
us, DataDirect, and Safeway to continue debugging the root case.
