Error description

• Sequential file stage file pattern option does not allow any
  valid shell expression,
  in Bourne shell syntax, that generates a list of file names.
  This feature is documented.

• This fix is included in 8.0.1 fixpack 3
  

Problem summary

  USERS AFFECTED:
  Users running any version of Information Server using the
  sequential file stage.
  ****************************************************************
  PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  Commands can be given in the file pattern option by surrounding
  it the back tick character like: `find /tmp -name *.txt` but
  this approach fails if the command returns too many files.
  ****************************************************************
  RECOMMENDATION:
  Install patch JR31849 and set APT_IMPORT_FILE_PATTERN_CMD.
  This change is included in 8.1 Fix Pack 1.
  ****************************************************************
  

Problem conclusion

• Added environment variable APT_IMPORT_FILE_PATTERN_CMD.  When
  set it will allow a command to be entered without back ticks
  andinternally will avoid using the ls and cat commands which
  will  fail with large numbers of files.
