Error description

  • ODBC Connector stage issues an undesirable SQL statement.
So following messages are put in a Netezza database log.
    -----
    2008-12-10 02:02:11.482956 EST [14860] DEBUG: QUERY: select *
    from CC_ODBC_TEST_CONNECTION
    2008-12-10 02:02:11.483190 EST [14860] ERROR: Relation
    'cc_odbc_test_connection' does not exist
    -----

A customer does not want these messages.

Local fix

  • make a dummy table named CC_ODBC_TEST_CONNECTION in a database

    RECOMMENDATION:
    Apply the patch.
The fix has been included in the IS 8.1 FP1. Apply the FixPack1
    for IS 8.1.

Problem conclusion

  • In order to check the validity of the Connection Handle, ODBC
    Connector
issues an SQL on a dummy table and based on the SQLSTATES
    returned by the
SQL Call, the state of the connection would be decided.
Since the table might not exist in most of the cases, a log
    message about
the same will be logged in the database logs.

Instead of querying on non-existent table and then checking for
    the SQLState,
SQLGetInfo is called to get the version of the database and
    thenbased on the
SQLSTATE returned by the call, the validity of connection
       handle is judged.
