APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • CLI applications calling SQLColAttributesW can fail with
"CLI0119E Unexpected system failure" when asynchronous mode is
    enabled.

The problem only affects the Unicode ODBC 2 API function
SQLColAttributesW. It does not affect the equivalent ANSI or
    ODBC 3 functions (SQLColAttribute, SQLColAttributes,
    SQLColAttributeW).

Asynchronous mode is disabled by default, but can be enabled by
setting AsyncEnable=1 in the CLI configuration file (db2cli.ini)
or by calling SQLSetConnectAttrW with the SQL_ASYNC_ENABLE
    attribute.

Local fix

  • Change the CLI application to use SQLColAttributeW (ODBC 3 API)
or SQLColAttributes (non-Unicode, ODBC 2) instead of
    SQLColAttributesW (Unicode ODBC 2 API).

Problem conclusion

  • First fixed in DB2 UDB Version 9.5 FP1.

Temporary fix

  • Change the CLI application to use SQLColAttributeW (ODBC 3 API)
or SQLColAttributes (non-Unicode, ODBC 2) instead of
    SQLColAttributesW (Unicode ODBC 2 API).
