APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • When you install Version 9.1 on a data server that has a
Version 8 copy installed, applications continue to connect
successfully to databases on the Version 8 copy but fail to
connect to databases on the Version 9.1 copy.
.
The installation procedure does not update the DB2 registry
correctly so that the DB2 Management Service in the
Version 9.1 copy can provide backward compatibility.

Local fix

  • (1) Update the Registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\DB2\InstalledCopies\(default)
with DB2V8 as a value.

(2) Start the DB2 Management Service on the Version 9.1 copy.
The service name is DB2MGMTSVC _db2copyname, where db2copyname
is the name of your Version 9.1 copy.

Problem summary

  • On a machine where both v8 and v9 are installed applications
works fine with v8 but fails with v9.
V9 DB2 install does not put the DB2v8 registry entry during
installation as a result the Management services does not find
it.

Problem conclusion

  • First fixed in DB2 V9 FP6

Temporary fix

  • (1) Update the Registry
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IBM\DB2\InstalledCopies\(default)
with DB2V8.
(2) Start the DB2 Management Service
