Problem conclusion
<This is not a bug. In Asset object, there was special design that whenever any field in the Asset is updated, the changeby and changedate are updated. The "Use In Asset Description" checkbox defined in the Classifications application means that whenever the value(ALN or NUMERIC) is changed, it will cause the ASSET.DESCRIPTION to be regenerated by the values of the specification template. Since ASSET.DESCRIPTION is a field of the Asset object, the changedate and changeby are updated. If the "Use In Asset Description" is not checked, it means the change of the value won't cause ASSET.DESCRIPTION to be re-generated. Hence, no field in the Asset object is changed so Changeby and Changedate are not updated. Only the "value"(ALNVALUE,NUMVALUE) in ASSETSPEC is changed. This is how it works. Changing the ALNVALUE or NUMVALUE in ASSETSPEC will update ASSET.changedate and ASSET.changeby only when the "Use In Asset Description" is checked.> The fix for this APAR is contained in the following maintenance package: | release\fix pack | REL 6.2.8
