Error description

  • nfs v4 activities on the nfs v4 client machine will hang after
the server got rebooted. You can see that there is a thread
in the middle of a state change and it is calling either
one of the dnlc_*() or makenfs4node(). The dnlc_*() or
makenfs4node() is waiting for rinactive() to finish.
rinactive() is waiting for IO to complete, the IO can not
complete because reclaim is going on. reclaim can not complete
because the thread is in the middle of state change.

Problem summary


    

  • nfs v4 activities on the nfs v4 client machine will hang after
the server got rebooted. You can see that there is a thread
in the middle of a state change and it is calling either
one of the dnlc_*() or makenfs4node(). The dnlc_*() or
makenfs4node() is waiting for rinactive() to finish.
rinactive() is waiting for IO to complete, the IO can not
complete because reclaim is going on. reclaim can not complete
because the thread is in the middle of state change.

    



Problem conclusion


    

  • while in the middle of state change, don't call dnlc_*()
function. And within makenfs4node(), always allocate, don't
get the rnode off the freelist (unless the free rnode is not
a file).
