APAR status

  • Closed as program error.

Error description

  • Version 3 NFS exported Veritas filesystem has slow
performance with
dsync option. This is caused by an additional open and
close done before
a read or write operation.  This additional open and
close is done for
performance optimization by other types of
filesystems(gpfs) and is not
needed by Veritas.  J2 already is coded not to do it.
Customer asked for
a test nfs extension which allowed Veritas to avoid
unnecessary path and
it was successfully tested to improve performance without
side affects.

Local fix

  • No local fix.

Problem summary

  • Copying a file raises CPU usage to 100% on the server.
The client hangs and then times out.

Problem conclusion

  • Avoid doing additional open/close before a read or write call
