• When comipling code with templates the user gets the following
  error:
  
  1540-0408 (S) The base class "..." is declared but not defined.

Problem summary

• PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
  In some limited cases, the compiler may fail to complete an
  implicit instantiation of a base class causing an incomplete
  class error.
  
  USERS AFFECTED:
  Users of template classes with dependent base classes where the
  base class is a template, although the issue not common to all
  template base classes and requires a specific pattern to be
  seen.
  

Problem conclusion

• The compiler is no longer missing the instantiation of the base
  class.
