Error description
Customer runs diag -cs on a 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter The fourth port remains Defined instead of available. The adapter will fail to configure until the system is rebooted. Example: lsdev -C | grep ent ent0 Available Logical Host Ethernet Port (lp-hea) ent1 Available 03-00 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter (14106803) ent2 Available 03-01 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter (14106803) ent3 Available 04-00 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter (14106803) ent4 Defined 04-01 4-Port 10/100/1000 Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter (14106803)
Local fix
Avoid running diagnotics on the adapter. Remove the adapters from the testable list via diag menus. Diag, task, remove resource from test list
Problem summary
Run diag -cs, when complete, one of the 4 port ethernet stay in Defined State, manual mkdev on the port will fail Need to reboot to recover
Problem conclusion
Diag code was change to protect the control variable from compiler optimization.
Temporary fix
