IZ69021: PCI EXPRESS 4 PORT FAIL TO CONFIGURE AFTER DIAGNOSTICS RUN APPLIES TO AIX 5300-11

APAR status

• Closed as program error.

Error description

• Customer runs diag -cs on a 4-Port 10/100/1000
  Base-TX PCI-Express Adapter
  The fourth port remains Defined instead of available.
  The adapter will fail to configure until the system is
  rebooted.

Local fix

• Avoid running diagnotics on the adapter.
  Remove the adapters from the testable list via
  diag menus.  Diag, task, remove resource from test list
  

Problem summary

• Run diag -cs, when complete, one of the 4 port ethernet stay
  in Defined State, manual mkdev on the port will fail
  Need to reboot to recover
  

Problem conclusion

• Diag code was change to protect the control variable from
  compiler optimization.
