Error description

  • AIX 6.1 provides several new long password algorithms but if
you specify one of them such as sha256, you may have a hang
    issue on db2start.
And in that case, you will not be able to have any clue about
the cause in db2diag.log and db2trc.

The following stack trace of dbx output is a sample case of
    specified password algorithm sha256.

    # dbx -d2000 -a 782550
Waiting to attach to process 782550 ...
    Successfully attached to db2start.

Local fix

  • Use default or supported password algorithm. ex,
      # chsec -f /etc/security/login.cfg -s usw -a pwd_algorithm=
      or
      # chsec -f /etc/security/login.cfg -s usw -a
    pwd_algorithm=ssha1
or specify the other supported password algorithm.

Please change password for instance owner so that the changes
    take effect.
You can check current password algorithm through login.cfg
    file.
      # cat /etc/security/login.cfg
