Error description

• Severe error occurred when
  attempting to acquire buffer memory through streams.  The
  following messages appeared in the log:

  Cause: The Stream to SNA Subsystem has reported a write error.

  Unable to forward an HPR NLP - not enough memory.

  Cause:  Not enough memory to forward an HPR Network Layer
  Packet. The packet will be discarded. If this error occurs
  frequently, it may cause RTP connections to path-switch or to
  fail.

Local fix

• Contact IBM support for efix.
  

Problem summary

• When a system is under stress, there is significant I/O
  activity to a disk, then the tn3270 server can fail with log
  16388-13 (12) ENOMEM and will require a restart of CS/AIX.
  CS/AIX is not redriving storage allocation process after
  initial request for storage failed.
  

Problem conclusion

• Code has been modified to handle low memory
  conditions from Streams.
