Error description

  • 1. The password given in the email.props file should always be
    encrypted using nco_g_crypt.

    2. The probe takes the encrypted password from the email.props
file and decrypts it using a decryption algorithm.

    3. Though the user inputs an encrypted password to the probe
through email.props, the probe always decrypts it and tries to
login to the email account on the email server using the
decrypted password only. This decrypted password is equivalent
    to a plain-text password.

    4. Hence, the probe can connect to the email server only when
plain-text password is enabled on the server.

    5. The probe will not connect to the email server if plain-text
password is disabled on the server.

Please add the above to the docs

    *                                                              *
    ****************************************************************
A new section entitled Specifying the password in encrypted
format will be added to the IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus E-mail
Probe Reference Guide. This new section will contain the
    following information:

Specifying the password in encrypted format
=================================== You must always specify the
password in the email.props in a format encrypted by
    nco_g_crypt.

When you run the probe, the probe takes the encrypted password
from the email.props file and decrypts it using a decryption
    algorithm.

Warning Although the user inputs an encrypted password to the
probe using the email.props, the probe always decrypts it and
tries to login to the e-mail account on the mail server using
the decrypted password only. This decrypted password is
equivalent to a plain-text password. This means that the probe
can only connect to the mail server when plain-text password is
enabled on the e-mail server. If plain-text password is
disabled on the server, the probe will not connect to the email
    server.

Problem conclusion

  • The product documentation will be updated with the release of
    the E-mail Probe.
