Error description

  • The following error may occur during installp or
    update_all
operations under unique fileset combination scenarios.

    0503-006 installp:
    Cannot change to directory /tmp/.workdir.nnnnn/xxx

Where nnnn is a random number, and xxx is the product
    name

    For example:
    /tmp/.workdir.9895952.9568342_1/usr/lpp/bos.

This may be seen if doing an update_all from a directory
which contains a fileset that uses an ifixlist package
file and that fileset is locked by emgr, or if an iFix
was already installed which did not include a valid APAR
    number.

The error occurs during the attempt to unpack files
from the archive for iFix verification in these special
    circumstances.

Local fix

  • Remove the related iFix prior to doing the update.

For example, if the error includes:
    -----------------------------------------------------
       0503-006 installp:

Cannot change to directory /tmp/.workdir.nnnnn/xxx ...

The following selected filesets are locked by EFIX
    manager:
      bos.rte.tty
    -----------------------------------------------------

    1) Verify that the updated bos.rte.tty fileset includes
    the
APAR for the installed iFix (check the .toc)

    2) Remove the bos.rte.tty related iFix and run the
    update again.

    For example:
    /tmp/.workdir.9895952.9568342_1/usr/lpp/bos.
