Error description

  • ERROR DESCRIPTION:
When Report Server Records Limit is set and a report tries to
fetch more records than the record limit then following message
    should appear.

"The number of queried records exceeded the report record limit
of nnn. Reduce the number of records that you want to query,
and rerun the report. For more information, contact your system
    administrator."

    PROBLEM:
But sometimes a generic message appears.

    PERFORMANCE ISSUE:
    n/a

    STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
    A.Property Settings: Set
    mxe.report.adhoc.UserSelectDynamicQuery to 1
    B. Report Administration: Set Security Group Limits
Set preview limits for specified security group to 100
Set report server record limits to 10,000

    Sign out of Maximo.
    Sign back into Maximo.

    Run Steps
    1. Access work order tracking. Bring up all record query. (in
    my example, this is 67K
    2. Select 'Create Report'
    3. Enable 'Save application query to report?'
Do not enable Add dynamic application query to the saved report
    at run time?'
Give it a title and click 'Run and Save completed report'

    4. Because the all records of 67K exceeds the preview limit of
100, the user receives a message that the result can't be
previewed - but can be saved. This is correct.

    5. But because the user created the report against 'All
records' - and the dynamic query is not being applied - the ad
hoc report can now be scheduled and/or run immediately against
    all records.

So we need to confirm it does not execute against the
Report Server Query limits which was set to 10,000.

*Note: This is less than the original parent record set of 67K
    (not including the child records)

    6. To do this, from Work Order Tracking, select Run
    Reports
Find the report you just created and select Submit.

The user should see an error similar to the one he received
earlier that the report can not be run because it exceeds the
    record limits.

    CURRENT ERRONEOUS RESULT:
However today the message below is incorrectly
    displayed.

"There was an exception on the server. Check your report
    parameter values..."

    EXPECTED RESULT:
The message should be more specific. Similar to:

The number of queried records exceeded the report record limit
of nnn. Reduce the number of records that you want to query,
and rerun the report. For more information, contact your system
    administrator."
