APAR status

Error description

  • On systems with large number of processes (around 200000)
    running, the ps command might fail with :
    malloc: Not enough space
    

Local fix

  • Extending the MAXDATA will fix the problem :
    LDR_CNTRL=MAXDATA=0x60000000 <ps command>
    

Problem summary

  • ps fails wiht malloc error, out of memory when there are huge
    number of processes running more than 2 lakh
    

Problem conclusion

  • Creating 64bit binary for ps
